(New York, NY) – It was a big start to the week for the MTA, as the long-anticipated East Side access for Long Island Rail Road is now up and running. For the first time, trains are directly servicing Grand Central Madison, at Grand Central Station. It’s the nation’s largest new passenger rail terminal built in the past 67 years. It also marks the biggest change for LIRR in over a century.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is set to deliver his budget proposal tomorrow. He’s expected to call for NJ Transit fares to remain constant, as he has for the past six years. Back when he first took office, Murphy called NJ Transit a “national embarrassment,” and vowed to fix it.
