Trial Opens Monday for Deadly Terror Attack Suspect Sayfullo Saipov

New York, NY (77WABC)-The Man charged in the deadliest terror attack in New York since September 11th  toes on trial Monday in Manhattan.

Prosecutors say Sayfullo Saipov plowed a rented truck into pedestrians and cyclists along the west side highway on Halloween of 2017.

A total of eight people were killed in the attack.

Saipov pleaded not guilty to charges that include murder in the aid of racketeering. Should Saipov be convicted, he faces the possibility of either life in prison or dthe death penalty.

This is the first federal death penalty trial of the Biden administration.
