BROOKLYN, N.Y. (77WABC) — An NYPD officer shot while making an arrest in Brooklyn this morning was able to leave Kings County Hospital with only a minor injury.

Police said seven-year NYPD veteran Orlando Adorino and his partner were responding to a domestic dispute call at a building on Gates Avenue in Bed-Stuy this morning. The officers noticed wall damage and attempted to arrest Raheem Joye for criminal mischief when police say he fired his gun during a struggle, hitting Adorino in the foot.

The shooter then fled and exchanged fire with other officers before getting hit with a bullet in the leg.

“He answered a call for help,” NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at a press conference. “He is a seven-year veteran officer. He is a husband and father, and thankfully he will recover.”

According to police, Joye has lengthy criminal history.
