NY: Damage Left Behind By Hurricane Ida In NYC
NEW YORK (77WABC) — Thursday marked the end of a long chapter of New York City transit history.
The MTA announced the reassignment of the city’s last remaining token booth clerks. More than 2000 employees will be reassigned to work as station agents to support customer service needs more effectively.
Officials say they will be able to move out from behind the thick metal-and-glass booths and engage customers directly. The booths will stay and will be a place for workers to do paperwork and call authorities if necessary.
Transit officials say it marks the completion of a process that has actually been underway for decades across the system.
