House Passes $858 Billion Defense Budget for 2023

WASHINGTON (77WABC) — The U.S. House of Representatives passed an $858 billion defense budget on Thursday.

The House passed the compromise version of the National Defense Authorization Act by 350-80, far exceeding the two-thirds majority required to pass the legislation and send it for a vote in the Senate.

The Fiscal 2023 NDAA authorizes a 4.6% pay increase for troops, funding for purchases of weapons, ships and aircraft — as well as support for Taiwan and Ukraine. One of the more controversial measures in the bill repeals the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for U.S. Troops.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre recently maintained the Biden administration’s stance that the mandate was the right thing to do.

The bill’s exorbitant budget, a record for any defense budget passed by congress, was $45 billion over what President Biden had proposed.
