NY: NYC Workers Protest COVID Vaccine Mandate
NEW YORK (77WABC) — The New York City Board of Health is appealing a ruling by a Staten Island Supreme Court judge that says a group of sanitation workers should have never been fired for failing to get a COVID shot, and should get their jobs back.
Staten Island Supreme Court Justice Ralph Porzio called the vax requirement arbitrary and capricious. His ruling could mean that sanitation workers fired for failing to roll up their sleeves could even receive backpay.
A spokesman for the city law department released a statement today saying the COVID vaccine requirement was grounded in law and critical to the health of New Yorkers.
