LOS ANGELES (AP) — The father of a California college student who vanished 26 years ago says there’s “no joy or happiness” after a jury convicted a former fellow student of her murder.
Stan Smart says that’s because Kristin Smart isn’t there. On Tuesday, a jury convicted 45-year-old Paul Flores of killing Smart in 1996 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
The prosecution alleged that Flores killed her during an attempted rape in his dorm room and his father helped bury the body at their home in nearby Arroyo Grande. But a separate jury on Monday acquitted 81-year-old Ruben Flores of being an accessory to murder after the fact.
