New York, NY (77WABC) — It is with profound sadness that Red Apple Media, Inc. announces the death of 77WABC Host Bernard McGuirk at the age of 64.
Mr. McGuirk, host of the “Bernie & Sid in the Morning” Program with co-host Sid Rosenberg, died on Wednesday, Oct. 5th, 2022 following a courageous battle with prostate cancer.
He leaves behind a wife Carol and two children, Melanie and Brendan.
77WABC plans to air a special tribute to the late Mr. McGuirk on Tuesday, October 11th.
Services for Mr. McGuirk have not yet been announced.

I’ve listened to Bernard since 1994 on Imus right on through the present.I somehow felt like he was my Irish uncle. Whenever something happened in the news, I always wanted to hear what he thought. He will be missed by me for years to come. My sympathy to his family, who he obviously adored.
I was an Imus listener from the 70ies but when Bernie came on the scene the show took a more adult form. HE MADE IT BETTER. With all that I liked the Bernie and Sid combo better. Will miss Bernie’s humor and intellect. A wonderful and good human. WILL MISS HIM
WOW! I’ve been able to listen to the tribute show today. I’ve laughed and cried and I never met Bernard.
I first heard him as they were signing off at WNBC; I was taking the NBC studio tour and we were standing outside the radio studios. I’ve listened ever since.
My thoughts and prayers have been with Bernard since he first spoke of being sick late last year.

I was shocked to see the announcement of Bernie’s passing. Since I moved to Florida I was missing the show but not aware I could listen on line etc. I loved Bernie on the Imus show and was so so happy when Sid and Bernie announced that they were taking Imus’s slot. It was like the clouds cleared and the sun came out. The show was so awesome, I never missed a day listening from 6am until I arrived at work at 8am. They kept me up to date and cheered me up and always started my day off feeling happy and ready for a great day. RIP Bernie , gone too soon. All of my best to his family and friends and to Sid I wish you well as I know Bernie will be missed by you very much – you were the perfect duo!

I’ve been listening to Bernie for almost 40 years. When I saw him on tv I fell instantly and madly in love with him! That hasn’t changed. Brilliant. A gentleman. And where he acquired such savoir faire and charm is a mystery: the projects as a white boy? Driving a taxi not in midtown Manhatten? Always just the right touch. Unerring class. And kindness. A man who taught other men, and women, by his sterling character, what it was to be a human being. The best thing is that we get to keep all of this; we just don’t get more, and we selfishly want more. With enormous love and deepest condolences for his very large family.

When I heard about Bernie passing my heart broke I prayed everyday for him as I am going through my own cancer battle myself so it hit close to home . God bless him and his family and the radio family WABC and thank you for the tribute it’s unleashing every emotion in the book be well! ✝️✝️✝️

It has been almost a week, and I still can’t believe that Bernie is gone. Despite his long illness and suffering, it was such a shock to hear that he actually left us. Bernie was so entertaining with Imus for so many years, especially as Cardinal O’Connor and other characters. But then with his own show with Sid, Bernie revealed another side of himself—a very intelligent, and well read patriot who was incredibly well versed in all the issues of the day. I was so honored to have been a contestant on “Beat Bernie,” and surprised to be the second contestant ever to actually beat him in June 2020. It gave me a chance to talk to him, which was the biggest thrill of all. What a kind and humble man, in addition to being a unique talent who can never be replaced.
My deepest sympathy to his wife Carol, his children Brendan and Melanie, his father, and the rest of the McGuirk family. Many thanks to them for allowing his funeral mass yesterday to be live streamed so that those who could not attend could pay respects to Bernie virtually and witness the heartfelt eulogies given by Melanie, Bo Dietl, Sid, and Mike Breen. I pray for his family and closest friends and colleagues during this very sad time, and for Bernie of course as well. Rest In Peace, Bernie. You are now one of the multitude of angels in Heaven, and you will always be greatly loved and greatly missed. God bless you always.🙏❤️🙏❤️

To this day I love and listen to Five Finger Death Punch’s “ Bad Company “ thanks to Bernie. I would’ve never have heard it if it wasn’t for Bernie. He loved that rendition as do I. Had to pay tribute to our dear late great Bernie. I have been a fan since his first days with Imus. I am so happy Lou Ruffino was united again with Bernie by the 77WabcRadio family. Lou and Bernie started together & were the best of buddies "Behind the Glass" in each studio years before Bernie brought Sid on to do sports.
It is a fitting tribute now to have the "Sid & Lou Show" continue Bernie’s legacy as Bernie I am sure would agree..

My husband and I are heartbroken about the passing of Bernie. We started listening to him during the Imus days. We’re praying for Sid, his family and especially his mother. I loved when Bernie had his mom on the show. Bernie was a wonderful example of how to be a son, husband, father and friend. Everyone loved his honesty and his sense of humor. We also pray for all of his friends from the Imus show. These past few months must have been so difficult for all. Sid, listening to you and Bernie every day was such a gift. You meant so much to Bernie as he always shared how much he cared about you as you could tell that just by listening to the show. The commorady between the two of you was amazing. I hope you do a book about him it is so important because he left us way to soon. When I heard he was going to be a grand father I was deeply sadden that he will miss out on that gift, that is why a book about his life and times is so important. Again my Deepest Condolences. I listen to Bernie throughout his career with Imus and than with Sid. Always enjoyed him and for the last 23 years he connected me with the New York I once lived in and loved. My God welcome him and he was a true New Yorker and he was loved.
I always watched Bernie when he’d be on Fox News. Then later on WABC radio. Woke up early to listen. Bernie was the perfect combo of entertainment and knowledge. Made me laugh, made me think. He was a brilliant man. Have missed him so much these last few months. Can’t believe he’s gone now. Mornings will never be the same. The world has lost a treasure! I was so sad to hear of Bernie McGuirk’s passing the other day. I had prayed that he’d beat the prostate cancer, and I imagine he had the best doctors in the world. He always made me laugh. When Sid joined forces with him, he seemed to become even funnier. The commensurate reader I was always interested in his take on certain books.
May he R.I.P. and condolences to his family, Sid and the entire personnel of this wonderful radio station.

I’ve known Bernie for 37 years. A funny, smart, talented, and overall great human being. I was so proud of him for working his way up from intern gofer to AM drive co-host with Sid on WABC, in the #1 market in the country.
I’m so sorry he had to suffer that insidious disease, but he’s at peace now.

Bernie’s life is a great example of someone who worked his way out of the projects, through hard work and perseverance . He worked his way through college and was an inspiration to many. He developed his talents to become a star in the radio world and beyond.. he was a inspiration to many with support and encouragement . He raised a wonderful family. He and Sid had a relationship to envy. The love and brotherhood was clearly revealed every day in their radio program. I once read “ don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened “. Not so easy to do. Deep gratitude to Bernie for all you gave to everyone. God Bless Bernie, his family, and all who loved him.
So sad to hear this. When he was absent for so long from the show I did fear that we would no longer have our voice of reason on the air every morning.

Upon hearing the news that Bernie passed, it felt like a punch to the gut – like losing an old friend. I’ve listened to Bernie since the 80’s – considered him a star of the Imus show. Smart and funny – and agreed with him politically. Had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times – he took the time to chat – couldn’t have been nicer, a true gentleman. He will be sorely missed ! My condolences to the family.

Like Bernie, I grew up in the Bronx and graduated from Cardinal Hayes, and even though we never met, as a fellow Hayesman I felt like I knew him. I followed his radio career and was a big fan, he was the best. He will be missed, a good man, he is gone too soon.
