LONG ISLAND, NY (77WABC) — An investigation continues involving the evacuation of the Nassau County Courthouse in Mineola.
The building was evacuated around 4:30pm Monday after authorities say a letter, possibly with hazardous material inside, was opened inside the building. Newsday reports that the powder appeared to come from a state prison inmate who sent envelopes to various sites around the state.
“It is not anthrax, but appears to be an inert substance,” state courts spokesperson Lucian Chalfen said.
