AFGHANISTAN-KABUL-BLAST
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A Taliban spokesman says a suicide bomber has killed 19 people and wounded 27 at an education center in a Shiite area of the Afghan capital.
The bomber hit while hundreds of teenage students inside were taking practice entrance exams for university, a witness says. The explosion took place in Kabul’s Dashti Barchi neighborhood, populated mostly by ethnic Hazaras, members of Afghanistan’s minority Shiite community.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. The Islamic State group — the chief rival of the Taliban since their takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021 — has in the past targeted the Hazara community.
