NEW YORK (77WABC) — A man is in custody for allegedly fatally stabbing an FDNY EMT lieutenant Thursday in Astoria.
Mayor Adams says 61-year-old Allison Russo, a 25-year veteran of the department, was killed in an unprovoked attack while walking to get her lunch around 2:15 p.m near 20th Avenue and 41st Street. Russo’s 34-year-old assailant barricaded himself in his Astoria apartment on 41st Street, before surrendering to police.
Russo is the second EMS member to die in the line of duty in New York City in the past five years.
