NEW YORK (77WABC) — Family and friends said goodbye to one of the three children drowned in Coney Island last week.
People gathered at Caribe Funeral Home for 4-year-old Liliana Merdy’s funeral, one of three siblings police believe were drowned by their mother. Her funeral took place days after her mother — 30-year-old Erin Merdy — was arraigned on murder charges in the deaths of Liliana, Zachary and 3-month-old Oliver Bondarev.
Merdy, was arraigned on Friday from her hospital bed at NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn as she undergoes a psychiatric evaluation.
Surveillance video taken shows Merdy walking on Coney Island beach with all three children. She was then seen two hours later on the boardwalk without them barefoot and wet.
The medical examiner determined the children were all drowned, ruling it a homicide. Merdy’s next court date is Tuesday at Brooklyn Criminal Court.
