(77WABC) — The U.S. Justice Department issued 40 subpoenas seeking information about the actions of former president Donald Trump and his associates in relation to the 2020 election and the January 6, 2021 riot on the U.S. Capitol.
According to The New York Times, Boris Epshteyn and Mike Roman, who were both Trump advisers, have had their phones seized. Among those also subpoenaed were Dan Scavino, Trump’s former social media director and former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik.
The action represents an escalation in the investigation coming just two months before the midterm elections.
The January 6 investigation coincides with a separate investigation into Trump’s storing of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home.
