U.S.-NEW YORK-CONGESTION FEES
NEW YORK (77WABC) — Congestion pricing planned South of Manhattans 60th street next year could reduce pollution and gridlock in Midtown while raising money for the cash strapped MTA.
While residents of the area may benefit from the plan — the South Bronx could end up with more pollution and congestion, with the hardest hit being the Cross Bronx Expressway. Areas adjacent to the Cross Bronx Expressway play home to roughly 220,000 Bronx residents — mostly people of color — in some of the city’s lowest income areas.
Congestion pricing is set to take effect late next year with added tolls designed to benefit the cash strapped MTA.
