NEW YORK, NEW YORK  (77 WABC)- Starting Monday September 12th through next month, the city is hoping to help reduce the spreading of rabies.   The health department will vaccine raccoons against the disease in all five boroughs.

This is in response to the rise of raccoon with rabies in the city.  The Health Department said the oral baits would be set in wooded areas of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn.

The chewable bait contains an oral vaccine.

NYC Park officials say if you see a raccoon, never try to feed them

Over a dozen racoons so far have tested positive for rabies this year.
