NEW YORK (77WABC) — The widow of a taxi driver who died after fatally striking his head on the ground during an altercation with fare-evading passengers spoke out Sunday.

Surrounded by loved ones and taxi drivers, Abby Gyimah tearfully spoke out about her husband, 52-year-old Kutin Gyimah. The couple have four children together, ages three, five, seven, and eight.

According to police, when Kutin Gyimah let five passengers out near beach 54th street in Edgemere instead of paying the fare, they tried to rob him. Police said Gyimah chased after the fare beaters and was struck, falling to the ground and hitting his head.

He died at St. John’s Hospital.

A 911 caller reported witnessing the attack, but, so far, no arrests have been made.
