NEW YORK (77WABC) — A rally against gun violence was held Saturday in Harlem.
St. Nicholas Avenue was filled with chants and drum beats Saturday morning as people came together to rally against gun violence. The rally was part of the annual Harlem Week celebration.
Various neighborhood organizations urged the community to work together to save lives. The event was even attended by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg despite ongoing criticism that his policies cause gun violence.
According to police data, shootings are down 10% compared to this time last year, and murders have dropped by 8%. Homicides are also well below the city’s historic highs from decades ago, but both shootings and homicides are still above their pre-pandemic lows.
