Patterson: Abbott’s Decision to Bus Migrants to NYC “Brilliant”

NEW YORK (77WABC) — Another busload of border-crossers from Texas arrived in the Big Apple on Sunday morning — as city officials ripped Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s policy of busing migrants to democratic cities to highlight the border crisis under the Biden administration.

Abbott a few days ago told New York City Mayor Eric Adams to suck it up. But ex-New York Governor David Patterson, a Democrat, said he is impressed by Abbott’s political maneuvering.

“The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has come up with … one of the most brilliant political strategies I’ve heard in a long time,” Paterson said on “The Cats Roundtable” hosted by 77WABC owner and operator John Catsimatidis. “I’m a Democrat. And there are a lot of things I don’t like about what he is doing. However, sometimes you have to tip your cap to your opponent.”

The influx of migrants — many of whom are reportedly pursuing political asylum in the U.S. — has left city officials scrambling to provide shelter as required by law. Many of the migrants will eventually head to final destinations in New Jersey, North Carolina, Chicago and Kentucky, with volunteers helping to get them there, the rep said.
