NEW JERSEY (77WABC) — A ground breaking taking place Monday on the new North Portal Bridge which when completed will be able to transport double the capacity of commuters from New York to New Jersey.
The Portal Bridge is 110 years old, and as many commuters know, frequent problems in operating the aging bridge over decades has caused nothing but problems for commuters especially during morning and evening rush hours.
The new two and a half mile span over the Hackensack River is expected to take four years to complete.
