WASHINGTON (77WABC) — The White House is working on naming a monkeypox coordinator in preparation for the possibility of more cases emerging within the U.S.
The Washington Post first reported the internal discussions about a coordinator. The Biden administration effort comes two months after the first case was reported in the U.S.
The U.S. has 2,900 confirmed cases.
Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House COVID Coordinator, told reporters Monday that more cases may pop up as testing ramps up.
Over the weekend, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern.
