NEW YORK, NEW YORK -(77WABC)- A day of fun on the water quickly turned to tragedy when a boat suddenly capsized on the Hudson river off Pier 84 at West 46th street around 2:45 pm Tuesday afternoon. NYPD marine units responding as screaming passengers spilled into the river—many rescued by New York Waterway ferries and taken to local hospitals.
Sadly a seven year old boy and a 50 year old woman died—investigators say they were likely trapped under the vessel when it capsized.
Mayor Adams reminding people this summer that the water can be dangerous.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
