NEW YORK, NEW YORK-(77 WABC)- Mayor Adams and City Department of Correction Commissioner Louis Molina say over 2,700 hundred weapons and contraband have been recovered from Rikers Island since the end of February. The increase in mostly homemade weapons recovered. The Adams administration says slashings and stabbings have fallen by 63 percent since March, and assaults on staff resulting in a use of force and use-of-force incidents have fallen 30 percent and 27 percent, respectively, compared to the same six-month period last year. The announcement comes in the wake of a recent court decision endorsing the city’s action plan to reform Rikers Island.
