Harlem, NY-A total of nine people were shot in Harlem early this morning one fatally. During a short press briefing, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said “the emboldened individuals responsible for this are exactly who our officers are battling everyday to make out city safe.”
The Chief of Detectives for Manhattan North, Brian McGee said a total of nine people were shot. He said five of the shooting victims were discovered at 12:40 am at East 139 St. and 5th Ave.
Upon arrival. McGee said police found five people shot on a foot path along FDR under Madison Ave Bridge. All five were transported by EMS to Harlem Hospital.
McGee said the four other shooting victims were taken to hospitals by private means.
Two of the shooting victims are females and seven of the shooting victims are males, he said. McGee said investigators think preliminarily that the shooting occurring during a barbecue.
A weapon was recovered.
A 21 year old male was pronounced deceased at Lincoln Hospital.
Police say anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-577-tips. An investigation is ongoing.
