(77 WABC) – According to police, two swimmers have drowned Friday at Rockaway Beach in Queens, New York.
Police state that the swimmers’ incidents are not connected and may have occurred around 6PM.
Lifeguards were not on duty at the time of the event. The victims swam in temporarily closed areas of Beach 86th and Beach 117th.
One victim was removed from the ocean near Beach 108th. The second victim was pulled from the ocean near Beach 98th.
Both victims were taken to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
