Intern Dean Pavlou – Avalanche Don’t Show Rust Win game of Cup Final Over Lightning

homepage-7

In game one of the Stanley Cup Final the Avalanche got out to an early 2-0 lead after goals by Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichushkin. With the score 2-0 the Lightning got one back on a breakaway goal scored by defenseman Nick Paul. Late in the first period Artturi Lehkonen struck back scoring a power play goal putting the Avalanche up 3-1 at the end of one. With the score still 3-1 Nikita Kucherov made a nice move and dished it off to Ondrej Palat who finished in front of the net to make it a 3-2 game. One minute later the Lightning tied it on a shot by Mikhail Sergachev erasing Tampa Bay’s two goal deficit just like that. With nobody scoring in the third period game one of the Stanley Cup Final was headed to overtime. 1 minute and 23 seconds into overtime Andre Burakovsky shot a one timer that got past Andrei Vasilevskiy for the game winning goal on a nice feed from Valeri Nichushkin who had a great game. This was a great win for a Colorado team that was coming into the Stanley Cup Final with 8 days of rest after sweeping Edmonton. Game two of the Stanley Cup Final will be on Saturday night with the Avalanche looking to take a 2-0 series lead.
