Man Fatally Shot on New York Subway Train; Suspect at Large

NEW YORK (77WABC/AP) — An unidentified gunman has shot and killed another passenger on a moving New York City subway train.

Police officials say it appears to have been an unprovoked attack, and the victim died at a hospital.

The family of the victim — 48-year-old Daniel Enriquez — is decrying violence. The family told The New York Post that Mayor Eric Adams should “do his job” regarding keeping the city safe.

“No one, no one, no one should have this happen to their family,” Enriquez’ sister Griselda Vile told the Post. “And the worst part is, even if they catch this person he’s going to be out again.”

Police say the shooting took place Sunday on a Q train traveling over the Manhattan Bridge at around 11:40 a.m. That’s a time of day when subway cars are often filled with families, tourists and people headed to brunch.

Recent subway crime has set New Yorkers on edge. Last month, a man opened fire inside a Brooklyn subway train, scattering random shots that wounded 10 people.

Police say to date, 557 people have been shot compared to 579 during the same period last year.
