A mammoth 1,000-pound great white shark named “Ironbound” has been seen off of the Jersey Shore.

NEW JERSEY -(77WABC77)- There have been shark sightings in the tri state area with beaches still a few weeks away from officially opening for the summer.  A mammoth, 1,000-pound great white shark named Ironbound has been seen off of the Jersey Shore. Scientist at Ocearch named the shark ironbound.

The New York Post reporting that the 20-year-old shark has a tracking device that signaled off the coast of New Jersey on April 28th.

He was last spotted May 3rd  out in the Atlantic Ocean, east of Philadelphia.

The shark was named after West Ironbound Island, Nova Scotia, where he was first sighted and reportedly measures an unbelievable 12-feet long.
