There’s a famous saying – “First for Everything,” and that was the case in the Staten Island Ferry Hawks home opener last night. After dropping their first nine regular season games, the Ferry Hawks FINALLY got off the snide with a 4-1 win over Lexington Legends.
Call it fate, call it destiny, call it whatever you may – but in their much anticipated home opener, with the 77WABC family in attendance the Ferry Hawks sent Staten Islanders home with a smile (something the New York Rangers couldn’t do.)
Teheran rose to fame compiling over 1000 innings in 9 years with the Atlanta Braves. Tehran, still just 31, last pitched in the MLB for the Tigers in 2021. It’s not out of question the 6’2 205lb sinker ball pitcher can latch back onto a big league club.
Staten Island University Hospital Community Park formerly home to the Staten Island Yankees (Short Season A; NY-Penn League) recently  built $10 million in upgrades to the ballpark, including the installation of synthetic turf allowing for a wider range of events apart from pro baseball.
The stadium certainly looks the part. Now Staten Islanders aspire the product on the field follows that trend.
(1-9) Ferry Hawks will look to keep the momentum rolling tonight at 6:30 vs. the (5-6) Lexington Legends.
