MLB: Game Two-San Francisco Giants at New York Mets
We’ll kick it off in the NBA, where we had three playoff battles last night. The Heat take a 2-0 series lead over the Hawks with their 115-105 win at home, the Grizzlies best the Timberwolves 124-96 to knot that affair up at one game a-piece, and the Pelicans steal one in Phoenix against the Suns 125-114 as they’ll head back to New Orleans with that series tied up at one. Looking ahead to tonight, the Nets will try and bounce back in Boston after a tough game one loss the other night. That tip-off is set for 7:00 pm eastern time. At 8:00 pm, the Sixers will try and take an even more commanding 3-0 series lead over the Raptors in Toronto, and the Bulls and Bucks will round things out at 9:30 pm with Milwaukee one-up in that series.
To the ice we go, where the Islanders suffered a not-so-surprising 3-2 loss at home to the Florida Panthers. As for the Rangers, they took care of business at home against the Winnipeg Jets with Ryan Strome putting them up one in the second, and for good. The Rangers win 3-0 to secure their third straight shutout before they pay the aforementioned Islanders a visit tomorrow night. In terms of this evening, look out for the Devils at home against the Buffalo Sabres. That face-off is set for 7:00 pm eastern.
Now to the diamond, where all New York baseball fans went home happy. Francisco Lindor is starting to look like his old self as he played the hero in game one of a double header in Queens against the San Francisco Giants. Tied up at 4 heading into the bottom half of the tenth, the star shortstop lined a walk-off single to center to keep the orange and blue rolling. The Mets secure the game one win by a score of 5-4, before promptly riding a masterful seven innings, one-hit performance from ace Max Scherzer in game two to clinch the double-header sweep with a 3-1 nightcap win.
Speaking of aces, Gerrit Cole took the ball for the Yanks against the Tigers and looked like anything but that, failing to get out of the second inning in Detroit. Cole has yet to register a qualified start on the season, which has left Yankees fans wondering what that $324 million was for. Fear not, though, as the bullpen would pick up his slack, and the Yankees would prevail by a score of 4-2. Both teams will be back in action tonight, with the Mets set for 7:10 pm and the Yanks set for another 6:40 pm start time.
On a rare tennis related note, according to reports, Wimbledon is set to ban Russian players from the tournament’s 2022 edition this summer. The decision – in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine – would break from current protocol on the tennis circuit which has seen Russian players still able to compete, but in a neutral capacity.
