NEW YORK (77WABC) — Governor Kathy Hochul announced deaths from COVID-19 fell to the single digits in New York and hospitalizations hit the lowest number since Aug. 3.
Five New Yorkers died from the virus Friday including a resident of Brooklyn and a resident of Manhattan, Hochul said. The number of hospitalized patients stood at 925 on Friday.
“Getting the vaccine is the best way to keep yourself, your community and your loved ones safe against COVID-19,” Hochul said in a statement. “We’ve made tremendous progress in our fight against COVID and we cannot stop now. If you have yet to get the first dose, second dose, or booster, do so today.
“They are free, effective, and readily available statewide,” she added.
Of the 136,585 COVID-19 test results that came back statewide Friday, 2,642, or 1.93 percent, were positive. The statewide seven-day average positivity rate was 1.85 percent and 1.39 percent in New York City.
