Deadly Strike Hits Building – Kyiv
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia’s relentless bombardment of Ukraine has edged closer to central Kyiv. A series of strikes hit a residential neighborhood in a western district of the capital and ignited a huge fire and a frantic rescue effort in a 15-story apartment building.
Shortly before dawn, large explosions thundered across Kyiv from what Ukrainian authorities said was artillery strikes. Shockwaves from an explosion also damaged the entry to a downtown subway station that has been used as a bomb shelter.
The leaders of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia said they are traveling to the capital Tuesday on a European Union mission to show support for Ukraine. Russian and Ukrainian negotiators have another round of talks scheduled.
Ukrainian Pres. Zelensky will speak virtually to members of Congress on Wednesday.
