To beef up security at the U.S. Capitol, National Guard troops were brought in as a precaution against potential extremist activity following the Jan. 6 riots. A far-right conspiracy theory predicted that former President Donald Trump would rise to power on March 4, the original inauguration day for presidents before 1933. NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City man has been charged with assaulting police officers during last year’s Jan. 6 attacks on the U.S. Capitol. Ralph Joseph Celentano III was awaiting an initial appearance in Brooklyn federal court Wednesday after his arrest. Celentano was charged by federal prosecutors in a case brought in the District of Columbia. They said in court papers that he caused one officer to flip over a ledge and onto a terrace below with what the officer described as a “football-type tackle.” It was not immediately clear who will represent Celentano in court or could comment on his behalf.
