NEW YORK (77WABC) — New York City is lifting mandates requiring masks in public schools and proof of vaccination to dine in restaurants or enter entertainment, sports and cultural venues. Mayor Eric Adams said Friday that while the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t over, he is confident it is now safe to send children to school unmasked. Adams’ decision comes as many other big cities and states roll back COVID safety rules. Illinois lifted mask requirements for many indoor spaces Monday. Chicago stopped requiring proof of vaccination in restaurants. As of Friday, Los Angeles County residents were no longer required to wear masks at restaurants, bars, gyms, shops and other businesses.
