Two NYPD cops shot in Harlem

cop-dead

HARLEM (77WABC) – Sources tell WABC radio that two NYPD cops were shot while responding to a domestic dispute in Harlem early Friday evening.  The suspect was also shot.

All three were transported to Harlem Hospital. One officer was dead on arrival, the other officer clinging to life and is currently in surgery.  Sources say the suspect died.

Police initially reported that both officers had been killed, but later said one had not been officially pronounced dead by the hospital.

The officers were responding to a domestic violence call, according to sources.

The shooting occurred on West 135th Street between Malcolm X Boulevard and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, near Harlem Hospital.  The gunfire erupted around 6:30 inside 119 West 135th Street.

Uniformed officers responded to the domestic violence call involving a mother and her son when the son came out and started firing at police without warning.

Multiple law enforcement sources identify man who shot the officers as 47 year old Lashawn McNeil from Allentown, PA. Police returned fire killing McNeil.

Story developing.

2022 already proving to be a deadly one for the NYPD. In just three weeks, this now makes 5 NYPD officers who have been shot.

The Harlem shooting comes a day after a NYPD detective was shot in the leg while serving a warrant at a home on Staten Island.  In that incident too, the suspect fired first multiple times on police through a bedroom door.  The officer in that incident fortunately used a shield to protect himself and fellow officers.

On Tuesday, Officer Kaseem Pennant was shot in the leg while struggling with a teenage suspect in The Bronx. The teen was also arrested recently for gun possession.

On New Year’s Day, Officer Keith Wagenhauser was hit with bullet fragments as he sat in his car outside an East Harlem police station after his shift.
