World leaders meeting at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow will issue a multibillion-dollar pledge to end deforestation by 2030 but that date is too distant for campaigners who want action sooner to save the planet lungs. Deforestation is a big problem that continues to affect our environment daily. Deforestation is the removal of a forest or a stand of trees from land that is then converted to non-forest use. The main causes of deforestation are from Hurricanes, fires, parasites, and floods. Timber extraction, firewood collection, Road and infrastructure construction, and Mining and oil extraction are some other main causes of deforestation. South America is the place that is most affected by deforestation. The countries in South America that are most affected by deforestation are Brazil, the Congo, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe. Deforestation affects the global climate by causing increases in temperatures and changes in the amount of distribution of Rainfall which creates a drier climate. If we do not do our part in helping the environment and trying to stop deforestation, then the world we live in will not ever be the same. The organizations that are trying to solve deforestation include Deforestation Conservation Groups, Amazon Watch, Rainforest Action Network, Rainforest Alliance, Trees for the Future, Conservation international, and Forest Stewardship Council Canada. My classmates and I are doing our part in creating awareness at our school by developing the Environmentalist Club that includes planting trees and gardens at Mitchell college.
