NEW YORK CITY (77WABC) – On November 11th at the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month, Armistice Day was celebrated at the Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden in Hanover Square in the Financial District in Manhattan, NY.
The event included Nicholas Howard, Managing Director of Barclays and Co-CEO of the Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden, and Nigel Evans, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.
The Garden was founded after the tragedy of 9.11 to remember the 250 citizens of the British Commonwealth who were killed, representing 8% of the total lost that day. Mayor Giuliani gave them the right to develop Hanover Square in the financial district as the location of the Garden.
Money raised from the private sector including JP Morgan and Bristol Myers, underwrote the cost of the Garden Additionally, private individuals and businesses support and maintain the Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden, including John Catsimatidis.
In 2005, Prince Charles, Patron of the Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden, came to New York to lay the Foundation Stone. In August 2010, Queen Elizabeth II formally opened the Garden with Mayor Bloomberg.
In addition, the Garden commemorates ‘Armistice Day,’* the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th Month and ‘The National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph’ in London on ‘Remembrance Sunday.’ The ceremony is held on the Sunday closest to November 11th. In England it is attended by senior members of the Royal Family, including Her Majesty the Queen, and more than 10,000 veterans..
A commemoration to honor ‘Remembrance Sunday’ will be held on NOVEMBER 14, 2021 at the Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden at Hanover Square at 11AM.
