The FDNY leads rally to protest vaccine mandate

New York, New York  (77WABC) – New York City’s vaccine mandate is set to go into effect Friday.

Fire fighter union officials leading a rally with other city workers outside Gracie Mansion Thursday to protest the mandate.

Currently 68 percent of the FDNY is vaccinated.

There are already reports of work slowdowns.  Many Staten Island residents complaining  that the garbage is piling up.

Mayor de Blasio remains firm on the Friday deadline, saying he’s working with the heads of the city’s frontline workers  in cases of any major shortages.

The mandate means suspension without pay for non vaccinated workers.

The Patrolman’s Benevolent Association say’s roughly 10 thousand officers are unvaccinated , that’s roughly one third of the NYPD.
