NEW YORK, NEW YORK (77WABC) – Students at high risk city schools will have to put up with some surprise metal detector scannings.

Mayor de Blasio said they’ll also be adding more security officers , after nearly a half dozen guns were found last week in city schools

NYPD Chief of Department Rodney Harrison, says members of the city’s school safety officer force has been dropping from 5,000 to 3,200.

Despite that, the Mayor say’s school safety agents and city police officers have been doing a great job in keeping schools much safer than they used to be.
