A Man Struck and Killed on the Belt Parkway Following a Separate Crash

Brooklyn, NY (77WABC)-A man who was involved in a separate crash, stepped outside of his vehicle on the Belt Parkway and was fatally struck by an alleged drunk driver who tried to go around the initial crash scene.

Police were on scene, investigating the initial crash, in which the 35 year -old- driver of a BMW rear ended a Honda Pilot in the westbound lanes near Erskine Boulevard shortly before 1:30 this morning. The BMW driver stepped outside of his vehicle, when another 35-year-old driver, behind the wheel of a Nissan Rogue, attempted to go around the accident scene and struck the BMW driver.

The BMW driver was thrown into the eastbound lanes by the force of the crash and pronounced dead.

Police  say the driver of the Nissan  was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving.

The 55-year-old driver of the Honda Pilot was not hurt. The name of the man killed and the two other drivers hasn’t been released.

An investigation into both crashes is underway.
