Suffolk County, NY (77WABC)-Suffolk County Police arrested two women who allegedly stole more than $43,000 from their employer, Goodwill Industries at 1900 Jericho Turnpike in East Northport. Police say the money went missing from the company’s bank deposits during a nine-month period, from November 2020 until August of 2021.
Police say 29-year-old Elana Sofia of 14 Gary Street in Port Jefferson was arrested on Monday, October 4th. Her co-worker, 33-year-old Sandra Bonilla of 18 Mindres Avenue in Brentwood was arrested the following day on Tuesday, October 5th. An investigation by detectives from the Second Squad found the women allegedly stole money from the company’s bank deposits.
Police say both women are charged with Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree. Sofia nd Bonilla were arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip earlier this week.
Grand larceny in the third degree is a Class D felony, which carries a maximum penalty of 7 years in prison if convicted.
The employment status of the women is unknown at this time.
