NEW YORK (77 WABC) — They say breaking up is hard to do.
Former Presidential candidate Andrew Yang is abandoning the Democratic party and now registering as an Independent. In a blog post the millionaire businessman says its the “right thing” to do.

“There are phenomenal public servants doing great work every day – but our system is stuck,” Yang wrote. “Now that I’m not a member of one party or another, I feel like I can be even more honest about both the system and the people in it.”
Yang says he’s been a democrat his adult life, but now say’s he can be even more honest about both the system and the people in it. He added that he believes leaving the Democratic party will allow him to have a greater impact on the issues.
Yang also says he’s not encouraging fellow Democrats to abandon ship. He mentioned that polarization in the United States is getting worse than ever.
