NEW YORK (77WABC) — At least one person was arrested after a fight broke out at a Little Italy restaurant Friday night during the Feast of San Gennaro.
According to police and witnesses, about eight people began fighting — with two women throwing punches and drinks at each other — at Il Piccolo Bufalo on Mulberry Street around 10 p.m.
“It was an all-out brawl,” said Mayoral candidate and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa. “People were throwing steel chairs; glass was broken all over the place. The fight started inside the restaurant and eventually moved outside.”
Sliwa, who was present at the incident, was thankful that the Guardian Angels were there to intervene before the fight escalated further. However the Angels didn’t completely get away unscathed, as some of the members — including Sliwa — were assaulted trying to calm the fight down.
According to Sliwa’s Facebook page, police didn’t arrive at the scene until 20 minutes after the fight. There was no word on any arest charges as of early Saturday.
