NEW YORK (77WABC) — Police said Wednesday that the death of a 1-month-old boy in his Brooklyn home earlier this year is being ruled a homicide.
Daquan Vaughan-Sanchez was found unconscious and unresponsive by his father, inside their apartment on East 32nd Street near Snyder Avenue in East Flatbush around 5:30 a.m. on March 8.
Daquan was rushed to SUNY Downstate University Hospital after his father called 911, where he was pronounced dead two days later, according to police. The city medical examiner’s office said Daquan died of abusive head and neck trauma.
Police said early Wednesday that the infant may have been a victim of shaken baby syndrome. So far, no arrests have been made in connection to the baby’s death.
New York City has seen a recent rise in child abuse-related deaths, as three children last week and one child last month, all under the age of 7, were found dead in their homes.
