NY: New York newspapers report on Barnard College student killing
New York, NY (77WABC)- Luchiano Lewis, now 16, was 14 years old when he participated in a ‘mugging gone wrong’ that ended the life of 18 year old Barnard College student Tessa Majors in December of 2019.
Lewis plead guilty to second-degree murder on Tuesday in Manhattan Criminal Court, and will be tried as an adult. He also stated that he did not know that Majors had been stabbed (let alone killed) during the robbery he participated in with two other minors, until he read about it the next day.
Tessa Majors was stabbed several times before she attempted to climb up a flight of stairs and whispered, “Help me, I’m being robbed,”– tragic.
Lewis also pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery. Two other minors were involved in the murder; one who already plead guilty and is serving their 18-month sentence as a juvenile (he was 13 at the time of the murder), and another who recently plead ‘not guilty’ and will also be tried as an adult.
“This was not a premeditated murder as we heard inside,” Jeffrey Lichtman, criminal defense attorney said. “These were 14- and a 13-year-old boys and we should remember that.”
DO YOU THINK HE SHOULD BE TRIED AS AN ADULT?
