Two Juveniles Charged in An Assault of a Teenage Student Outside Copiague High School

Copiague, NY (77WABC)-Two juveniles are under arrest for allegedly assaulting a 19-year-old male student in front of Copiague High School Tuesday afternoon.

Suffolk County Police say the 19-year-old was surrounded by several other students while he standing in front of the high school at 1100 Dixon Ave. around 2:30 in the afternoon.  Investigators say a 15-year-old male held the 19-year-old while a 16-year-old male punched him repeatedly. A third unidentified person also participated in the assault.

Following the assault, the 19-year-old was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an investigation by First Squad detectives, the two juveniles were arrested in Copiague Wednesday. They are charged with Gang Assault 2nd Degree. Both are scheduled to be arraigned today in Central Islip; the 15-year-old in Family Court, and the 16-year-old as an adolescent offender in District Court.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information on the assault to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
