VIDEO; A Queens Woman Charged with a Hate Crime in the Damage of Religious Statues

Queens, NY (77WABC)-A 23-year-old Queens woman is under arrest charged with damaging two statues outside of the Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church located at 70-01 Kessel Street in Forest Hills.

Police say Jacqueline Nikiena of 69-33 Olcott Street allegedly removed two statutes in front of the church around 3:30 am on Saturday, July 17th.  Nikiena allegedly repeatedly slammed the statues to the ground causing them to break before fleeing.

Police say Nikiena is charged with aggravated harassment and Criminal Mischief as a Hate Crime. Surveillance video is below from outside of the church:

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force investigated the incident.
