New York, NY (77WABC)- Take me out to the ballgame! Baseball and live entertainment is coming back to Staten Island. Even the sweltering heat couldn’t stop a press conference held at the Richmond County Ballpark Stadium yesterday as exciting plans and renovations were announced.

New York City Economic Development Corporation and Staten Island Entertainment LLC was joined by community members, little league players, baseball coaches, high school athletes and elected officials at the ballpark to celebrate a recently signed deal between NYCEDC and SIE to bring baseball back to Staten Island and to discuss turning Staten Island Ballpark into a year-round venue, which can host other youth and amateur sports, along with concerts and festivals.

Former Mets great Dwight ‘Doc’ Gooden spoke to the crowd, along with Mayor Bill DeBlasio, SI Borough President James Oddo, SI Entertainment Chair John Catsimatidis, SI Entertainment President Eric Shuffler and more.
