pfizer-vaccine
NEW YORK (77WABC) – In a move many Americans have anxiously been awaiting, the Food and Drug Administration is expected to grant full approval of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.
According to a New York Times report, the FDA was planning the approval for Labor Day, but it has now been expedited due the recent surge of the highly infectious Delta variant.
Last week the Centers for Disease Control Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended “an additional dose” of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines for those with compromised immune systems.
The CDC plans to roll out the booster shot program nationwide starting September 20th. It’s still unclear whether the Johnson&Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will have a booster shot. For now it’s only the Moderna and Pfizer MRNA versions.
Q: Who needs a booster shot?
A: The CDC recommends a booster shot for fully vaccinated adults, 8 months after their second shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Like the vaccine, booster shots will be free and easily accessible.
