Last year the Rangers finished 5th with a record of 27-23-6 in the star studded metropolitan Division which includes the Penguins, Bruins, Capitals, and Islanders. David Quinn, who was the coach of the Rangers finished, with a record of 96-87-25 in three seasons with the team before being fired. I think Quinn did a good job as the Rangers coach but I think they lacked toughness with him as the lead man. After firing Quinn, the Rangers then proceeded to hire Gerard Gallant who served, as the head coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, and the Vegas Golden Knights. Gallant’s record as head coach is 270-216-51 which is a really good mark. Gallant also coached in the QMJHL and compiled a record of 159-34-9 in his four seasons with the Saint John Sea Dogs. Gallant led the Sea Dogs to three first place finishes, three league final appearances, two QMJHL championships in 2011 and 2012 as well as one memorial cup in 2011. The Rangers are getting a very accomplished head coach in Gallant that will bring toughness to the team and that I think will turn things around quickly for New York.
