A Man Rescued from the Long Island Sound off Rocky Point

Suffolk County, NY (77WABC)- A 60-year-old Rocky Point man was rescued by officers from Suffolk County’s Police Marine Bureau after floating in ocean waters for more than three hours Wednesday night after becoming separated from his Jet Ski.

The United States Coast Guard notified police at approximately 6:30 p.m., that a friend of  Douglas Gordon reported that he was overdue to return to Rocky Point.

A Suffolk County Police Helicopter responded to the area at approximately 6:55 p.m. and located the 1991 Jet Ski floating in the water, Gordon was missing.

Police Officers Michael Malone, and Shawn Mooney, onboard Marine Delta, responded to the area five minutes later. They discovered Gordon approximately ¼ of a mile away from the disabled Jet Ski and approximately ¾ of a mile off shore. Gordon, who was wearing a life jacket, was attempting to swim to shore.

The man was taken onboard and transported to shore. Police say  he refused medical attention.
